Wind Damage

Severe winds came whipping through Spring Lake on Saturday.  As is common during such storms, the golf course was littered with leaf and stick debris.  We did lose two trees due to the wind.  The spruce over the back left of 3 green was completely uprooted and a maple to the left of 11 fell in the native area.  The tree on 11 was already in severe decline and was scheduled to be removed as part of our lakefront clearing this winter.  Based on the magnitude of the winds and age of many of our trees, I was surprised that we only lost two.  Our crew is working quickly to clean up the downed trees and debris throughout the course.

Wet Well and Irrigation

Many of you have seen the large excavation going on near the dock property.  This is the installation of the wet well for the irrigation pumps.  The wet well is where the pumps will draw the water from for irrigating the golf course. The well is tied into the intake pipe that we installed this past spring.  The next steps will be to pour a concrete floor and set the pumps in. Once the pumps are set we will build the pump house structure around them.
The wet well site was excavated and de-watered before setting the concrete well.
Once the well was set, the intake pipe was tied into the well.
Pre-formed concrete sections were stacked and sealed to get the proper depth for the well.
The area was backfilled and compacted around the well.

Installation of the mainline pipe on the golf course is ongoing.  Today, we should be finished with number 18.  Mainline still needs to be installed on numbers 6,12, and 10.  Once the mainline is complete, we will begin hole by hole installation of laterals and heads.  Our plan is to start on holes nearest the lake and work in from there.

Mainline is continuing up 18 toward the practice area.

Lakefront

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been working on clearing much of the brush near the lake on holes 11 and 13.  These areas have been overgrown for several years and blocked site lines to Spring Lake.  We will continue to work on these areas, as well as number 12 throughout the winter.
With a little more hard work, we can create a stunning backdrop for 10 green.

The most dramatic change is the views of the lake you can now have on 11 tee.

Cleaning up the ditch on 13 has greatly improved the look of the entire hole.
